I know it's long overdue, but it's time for another braces update!
The last time I wrote a braces update was about 4 months ago. WOAH. Time flies! If you go back to my last update, you can see a HUGE difference. The most obvious difference is that my gaps are more noticeable which could be embarrassing, but I've learned to accept the process.
Here's a closer look from the side. I've also been wearing my rubber bands, but my orthodontist has been moving my K9's towards the back with the molars. It's SOO close to being where it needs to be, and once that happens we'll start moving the rest of the teeth back too.
I'll be honest, I'm a little nervous for that part because I don't know how it's going to work, but like I said, I trust the process and my orthodontist's expertise.
Here are a few more photos up close. You can see there are gaps, and that my smile still looks a little gummy. I can't quite tell if it's gotten better, worse, or stayed the same.
Also, if you're wondering what those giant white mountains are on my molars, it's a temporary cement that keeps my molars in the waaay back from biting off the brackets. I know it definitely looks crazy, but you get used to them after a while. I don't think I've ever seen anyone else with them, or at least not as big as mine, but they do their job.
I *finally* made an appointment with an oral surgeon for next month to have a consultation about the mini screws/ mini implants. If you don't know what I'm talking about, I mentioned in this blog post that I would be getting mini screws (that are also temporary) to reduce the gumminess in my smile. This is also supposed to speed up the process to close ALL the gaps that you see in my teeth right now.
I'm terrified, but also excited. Don't worry, I'll be sharing the appointment details and everything real soon. This is a great sign though, because it means that we are close to the end of the braces journey! AHH!
I don't have an exact timeline of when I'll be getting my braces off, but I'm hoping by the end of this year or early next year the latest. It's almost been a YEAR since I've had them!
If you live in the Orange County area, and are looking for an orthodontist, I highly recommend Dr. Sophia Updike at Updike Orthodontics! She's so kind (along with her staff) and truly is an expert at what she does. You can even mention that I recommended you ;)
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this little update, and stay tuned for the oral surgeon consultation coming soon!
